Yoyotech Virtue RS1 family PC review: not as fast as it should be

However, there are two things we really don’t like about the Virtue RS1. The first is that it’s simply not as fast as we think it should be, and the second is that it costs a crazy £860 plus delivery. Check our PC reviews and you’ll see better features and performance are available elsewhere for less. The compact AVP Defender system case disappointingly offers no front USB 3.0 ports and features a blanking plate for a card reader which hasn’t been installed. It’s a basic and cheap-feeling chassis with almost no room for expansion inside – even for hard drives, although you can tell that Yoyotech has taken great care during the assembly with very neat and tidy cabling. The installed Asus H81M-Plus motherboard uses the H81 Express chipset, rather than the B85 Express chipset found in most of the competition. This means only two memory slots are provided, rather than four. As standard, the Virtue RS1 is fitted with a single 8GB stick of 1333 MHz memory, leaving a spare slot for expansion. It’s worth noting that every other family PC we have tested this month – including cheaper models – is using faster 1600MHz RAM. In our benchmarks, the Virtue RS1 delivers decent storage performance combined with large capacity, but in other areas it falls a little behind other PCs equipped with similar processors. Ordinarily we wouldn’t care too much about small differences, but when the slower PC is also more expensive, we have to question it. Even the graphics card is of a lower specification than more of the competition. You may not need more gaming speed, but if you’re paying for it you certainly deserve to get it.
