You need a TV that has the technology and power to make all those pixels really shine, and that’s exactly what Samsung’s 2018 QLED sets offer.

A quality choice

As well as that Ultra High Definition resolution, you also get fantastic HDR because this is one of the brightest TVs around. What that means is that there’s detail in bright areas without sacrificing details in dark areas: you’ll see every last detail. For those that care about standards, QLED supports HDR10+ and UltraHD Premium. It doesn’t matter whether you’re watching at night or on a sunny afternoon: you’ll always see a bright picture with QLED. That’s something you can’t say about any other TV technology at the moment which tend to be good only in bright or dark conditions. Let’s not forget about colours, either. The 2018 QLED TVs are capable of producing 1 billion of them so you’ll see exactly the right shade of green on a football pitch, for example. Viewing angles are improved, too, so you don’t have to sit in precisely the right position: colours look great for everyone watching. They’ll stay that way, too, because the quantum dots – the ‘Q’ in QLED – are inorganic particles that won’t degrade over time.

A stylish choice

And it isn’t just technical prowess, as Samsung has designed the 2018 QLED to be completely practical as well. No-one wants to see unsightly wires and they’re especially hard to hide if you wall-mount your TV. With a QLED TV, not only is there no gap between the TV and your wall, there’s just one thin wire (only 3.3 millimetres thick) that runs to a box that contains all the ports and connections you need. You can hide this away with your set-top boxes. And you won’t need their remotes cluttering up your coffee table as the TV’s One Remote can control them all, from Blu-ray and DVD players to Freeview and Sky boxes. Best of all, when you’re not watching TV the screen can blend into your room by displaying wallpaper, your favourite photos or useful information such as the time, news headlines and weather forecast. It’s not even expensive to keep the screen on like this, as power consumption is very low. In case you hadn’t noticed, the screen’s bezels are seriously slim, too, so all you’ll see is the picture itself.

A smart choice

Remote controls aren’t designed for entering text, but Samsung has made it simple to set up a QLED TV by using the SmartThings app on your phone. This makes it fast to connect to your Wi-Fi network and other accounts. The app even lets you take the entertainment with you when you’re in a different room and syncs all your compatible Samsung devices, from fridge to washing machine. So even if you’re immersed in the latest blockbuster, your QLED TV will notify you when your laundry is done. We’re used to controlling things with just our voice these days, and the 2018 QLED makes life easier with its own digital assistant. Press the button on the remote and you can ask it to select a certain channel, display a particular photo album or bring up the SmartThings control panel.
