What is the gameplay like?

So, what can you expect from Tekken 7? The graphics look great for a start, as Tekken 7 is powered by the Unreal Engine 4, which helps to produce both highly detailed characters and dynamic, reactive environments. The game was in fact originally released in Japanese arcades three years ago, but it’s taken a while for the console and PC port to come out. The good news there is that at least it means the developers have had plenty of time to perfect the game’s balance. There’s an extensive story mode following the Mishima clan, and the devs claim that it’s one of the most tightly integrated stories in any fighting game yet, though we suspect it’s still not the reason most people will be picking it up. There’s a traditional Arcade Mode too, which is always welcome, along with Treasure Mode, which pits you against an endless gauntlet of opponents in randomized outfits, giving you the chance to unlock the clothing for yourself in addition to earning more of the in-game currency, Fight Money. The game includes a roster of 36 fighters at launch, including 10 who are entirely new to the franchise, while more characters have been promised as DLC. One of the most surprising additions to Tekken 7 is support for PlayStation VR, which is a first for a major fighting game. It’s pretty limited though – it still makes you a 3rd-person observer of the fight, and strips out most of the game UI for what’s essentially a training mode, rather than the full game.
