Small Bluetooth speakers with decent sound are hard to come by but the Emberton will go up against the likes of Sony’s Extra Bass speakers and the ever popular Bose SoundLink Mini II and Micro. Read our Marshall Emberton review. Marshall has created the speaker with a durable IPX7 water-resistant design so you can submerge it in up to 1m of water for a period of up to 30 minutes. At 700g you’ll barely even notice it in your bag. There’s also a multi-directional control knob just like the one found on some of its headphones, such as the Monitor II. The guitar amp maker also promises absolute 360° sound “where every spot is a sweet spot” thanks to True Stereophonic technology which separates out the spatial content from audio.
Battery life is key for a portable speaker and the Emberton offers 20+ hours of playback, according to Marshall. There’s a battery indicator on top and a quick 20 minute charge over USB-C provides five hours of tunes. It also looks the part, of course, with signature details such as the solid metal grille and iconic Marshall logo. If you’re wondering about the name, Marshall uses locations – usual around London such as Uxbridge and Acton – but Emberton appears to be a village near Milton Keynes. Marshall says the Emberton is available exclusively in the UK from today via Currys and the official store, priced at £129. However, the press release we got also lists prices of US$149 and 149 Euro.
