Rather than add any major new features, Google has marked this release as achieving ‘ Platform Stability’ in its Android 11 timeline. The company is expected to push the third and final public beta of the software in August before a final release in Q3, presumably at the same time as the launch of the Pixel 5. In our hands-on review of the first public beta of Android 11 last month we praised the redesign of the notification system and privacy controls, while it also delivered nice visual updates to media controls. The voice access accessibility feature is also very impressive. But gone are the days of Google completely overhauling Android every year. It’s a mature OS now, and this second beta that is said to merely stabilise the platform is evidence of that. It’s a good thing – Android 11 isn’t as buggy as previous betas.
